Mystery Drop

A while back I put a squarebody front crossmember and sway bar on my '66 shortbed. I used the whole thing as purchased from the junkyard, and redid the bushings, bearings and etc. with new stuff from my local parts store. I did re-use my fairly new stock height '66 springs by Early Classic along with my same Monroe gas shocks. Both springs and shocks seemed to fit the later crossmember without any issues. What I can't explain is why this swap seemed to lower the front end of the truck by around an inch and a half. I actually had to block up the rear axle by that much to regain my original body rake proportions. Anybody have any explanation? As a side note the rear springs are stock height as well. I purchased them as a set with the front ones.
