Return Line Question/Issue

I am plumbing my fuel system for my 6.0 swap into my 70 GMC. I am using the stock in cab tank. I added a 2nd line to my sending unit and when I was trying to get the sending unit into the tank, the return line tube broke off at the weld. The tube was equal length to the pickup tube. Now it is flush. The return line is still solid as a rock.

Can I use this and not have any negative effects? I would think the only issue would be hearing the gas returning into the tank?
