Heater Control Valve?

My heater doesn't blow hot air. Someone told me it's my heater control valve. Where is this thing? I followed the heater hoses to the fire wall, and I cannot find it? I went to the auto parts store and looked at one, so I know what it looks like. I'm going to Mammoth next week (Mountains, skiing, Cold). Please help. I don't think it is my thermostat, that doesn't affect the heater, right?
Thanks for any input.
