Way tooooo Shiny

hey guys...new here to the forum and picked up a 1973 stepside with a 383 stroker. So the guy painted it a shiny black with an average paint quality. What I want to do is go with a faded black look like the picture and if I can't do that maybe a primer black. That said this is going to be a driver so now worries about the a show quality paint but how do I get that faded black without a repaint? Do I just hit the clear with sand paper? let me know your thoughts.
