Waking the sleeping green monster
Hey guys, hope everyone has been enjoying the Holidays.
So in the last few months, I've managed to drop a fresh 350 in, do brakes all around including a master and booster, and install brand new KYB shocks all around. To say the least its like a completely different truck. Starting with the brakes... new shoes and wheel cylinders all around. Went to test drive, truck wouldn't stop. A new booster and master cured that. Thing stops awesome for being all-wheel drum. While doing the brakes i did the shocks, truck kinda handles for once. And last but not least, a fresh .030 over 350. A little back story. A couple years ago i built a mild 350 for my college engine class. Stock crank, rods, with forged TRW little dome pistons in a 010 4 bolt main block. 487 casting heads cleaned up with 2.02 and 1.6 valves. Lunati barebones 204/214 on a 112 LSA with .420/.440 lift, stamped rockers, performer intake with a Holly 600 and MSD HEI ignition. With 9.2:1 compression on 93 octane, it made 340 horse and 390 torque. Some months later i pulled the motor apart to use the block in my 383 stroker build. A couple months ago i wanted to put it back together. My buddy had a 010 2 bolt block. $300 later i had a fresh decked/bored/honed .030 block ready to be assembled. I bought a new cam, Lunati barebones 214/224 on a 112 LSA .440/.460 lift. This one didn't get dynoed. The compression was almost exactly the same. We dropped it in the truck with some summit brand full length Headers. This time with an Edelbrock 600. The truck gets moving now. Awesome torque and acceleration for such a mild engine. I can post pictures and a video of what she sounds like at idle if ya guys would like to see. Thanks for reading, HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!
