Ground issue or Starter issue
I recently replaced my starter for a small hi torque starter due to the headers being too close to it and I was trying to avoid frying it with the heat.
once I replaced it the truck started just fine but yesterday I went to try to start it again and it only clicked once and I lost all power to truck no no lights at all (66 chevy pick up with 350 in it) So I checked all my fuses and they were good I checked voltage in the battery and I had 13.3 V but here is where the issue gets weird I have power from the battery to the horn relay but when i check it with the ground from the battery when I check it from the ground in the block or frame I get nothing? I checked all my ground straps and they seem to be ok and tight I have 3 1- Battery to Alternator bracket 2- Block to frame 3-frame to cab So once I checked them I unpluged the ground from the battery post put it back and tighten it and I got power back to the truck all lights were working and ground at the frame was good again but as soon as I tried to start the truck same thing happened one click and lost all ground ... Has anybody experienced this or has any idea what can be wrong or what to test ? friend of mine said it was my main ground strap from the battery to alternator bracket so I will replace it since it looks old not sure if that can be it or is it the starter causing this ? I never had this issue till I installed the new starter but it worked fine rite after i installed it ... Please hand thanks in advance |
