Power Steering k10

Ran across one with a pinched return line, someone force-bent the return line at the box causing the line to be pinched, not fully closed off, just restricted. There was no fluid in it because I guess it all came out the cap.

Swapped the line for a non-kinked one and topped off fluid. Ran truck, stopped truck after a few seconds, topped off again, repeated once more. Turned wheels left and right a few times, no assist. Had no floor jack but was on a smooth surface.

Turned truck off, fluid poured out of cap and all over the floor. Chattered a couple of times when turning but never assist. Tried a couple more times, same results.

My thoughts were it is a new box AND pump but something wasn't right. Maybe the box wasn't done right or the valve for the pressure side on the pump was messed up. Didn't go any further after that though.

Thoughts?
