1955 cameo 3 speed column shift

I have a 55 cameo truck that I am fighting with the shifter. the shifter box has been off a couple of times including sending it to jim carters for rebuilding. The shifter gets stuck and you have to go under the hood and lift up on the shift arms to get back to neutral. everything on it looks perfect as afr as the shifter goes. I have replaced the bushings, adjusted the shift rods and clearanced the left exhaust manifold to make sure the linkage doesn't rub on it. any ideas on what I am missing or what I should do to solve it?
