Should you put something between the leaf springs?

is there something that goes between the leaf springs and should you use them? Or could you just stacked the leaves on top of each other?
And what about leaf spring pads that get sandwiched between the Leaf springs and the axle? Energy suspension says that it reduces vibration from entering the frame into the cab.
