Later Model AC?

Here's my situation: I'm putting my Blazer back together, and I discovered there was a huge hole in the hard line to the evaporator. The new engine is an L31 with serpentine brackets from a 98 Silverado. I had planned to use the condenser and compressor from a 2001 Express 3500 van that's volunteered to be an engine donor for another project. I know it's a long shot, but... has anyone ever used the evaporator from a later model Chevy in a 72 with factory air?
