Get on some rubber gloves, douse a rag in Laquer Thinner and pull the plug wires through it, dont soak them in it, it'll eat em, but if you run them through a rag with Laquer thinner on it they'll come clean, In my experience there aint much laquer thinner wont break through, harsh stuff, be careful!

WD40 works great for this too
