Project SHKNBK
Greetings! About 3 years ago I picked up this 1972 K10 Suburban. Throughout the years I've been buying the replacement panels for it and misc. interior pieces such as carpet window cranks and door latch handles, steering column and steering wheel ect.. I'm going to pick up some newer Chevy Suburban/Tahoe 2nd row seats for the front and rear row seats.. Anywho, onto the fun stuff! For the engine I'm going with a LS swap, but to stand out of the crowed this LS engine is going to have a ZL1 supercharger mounted ontop of it, hoping for around 650-700hp.. We'll see how it goes. I cant wait to hear that wine of the supercharger and the faces of the ones that under estimated this big ol' land yacht haha. For the transmission I'm going to run a semi built 4L80E mated to a rebuilt NP205 transfer case.

After many many years of service the old SBC and 4 speed is out for good, this one is for you ol' reliable Time to clean up the frame and start on its new drive-train

Made up a cross member and had to modify the motor mounts a bit to get them to work.. Motor and trans pictured is my brothers that is going in his '91 Blazer. I'm just using it for mock-up while mine is at the machine shop getting freshened up. Also welded up a few holes in the frame for a smoother look, I don't like swiss cheese.

The difference between the bedsides and the suburban sides is the area behind the wheel well below the body line. The distance from the bumper to the lower corner of the wheel well is longer on the suburbans I believe, or vise-versa causing that angle leading up to the bumper different between the two. You should be able to use a majority of the bedside but I'm not positive about that. I made a thread on all the replacement panels I've used or am going to use on my Suburban.

Brought the block back from the machine shop for a quick coat of paint. Just going to finish porting the heads and send everything back to get the long block assembled. Hopefully in about a week or so.

I've also recently completely rebuilt the transfer case. Can't kill the old NP205. I milled a flat, drilled and tapped the hole for the VSS sensor with the 40 pulse tone wheel so that the 4L80E trans will function properly. I had to replace the stock input shaft with a female 32 spline (If I remember the count correctly) shaft. All new bearings, seals and a REAL GOOD deep clean. That's one good looking transfer case if I say so myself!

Dropped the block back off to the machine shop yesterday for final assembly. Going to try to get the Burb back into the shop next weekend to finish up some frame work, lift the body, paint the frame and run the fuel lines.

Here's the fuel system (shrunk down about 13 feet): Pretty picture for reference.
-Fuel sump with a -10an outlet -Into a Aeromotive A1000 -Through a Aeromotive filter -Up to a Aeromotive 40-70 PSI regulator with boost reference (mounted either on the fire wall or I'll make a bracket to mount it on the blower somewhere) -Reduced down to -8an straight to the fuel rail -The return will be a -6an ran beside the -10an feed and will T into before the pump and after the sump. If anyone see's anything wrong with how I have it set up let me know!

Made up a bracket to mount the regulator on the blower lid. I'm trying to keep everything off the firewall and fenders for a cleaner look.

Lifted the body off the frame last night. Today I removed all the brake lines and fuel lines, de-greased and pressure washed, wire wheeled, primed and painted. I ran out of paint and ended up painting in the dark so I missed a few spots HA whoops. Waiting another day to paint in the day light was clearly not an option. I'll touch up the missed spots up tomorrow. Anyone that is looking to paint their frame I highly recommend going the extra step and using a paint gun. I diluted the rustolium about 15% with acetone or lacquer thinner (I just eye balled it), mix well and spray into your prepped surface. It comes out 5X better and paint time is 3X as fast compared to brushing it on.

Ive painted many things with Rustolium, as like any other brand as long as you prep it correctly it'll last.
