A couple of my high school buds and I bought an old Corvair and off roaded it one summer if that counts. I think we gave $30 for it. It drank more oil than gas and we had an absolute blast with it. Something like this.

After my soon-to-be wife wrecked her VW bug, we took off the doors and the remaining glass and drove it as a dune buggy on forest service roads the rest of that summer. We weren't racing anyone but we sure drove it kind of crazy because after all we couldn't hurt it much
