Selling truck, your help to set price?

Well, it's been a long and twisty decision but I'm going to be putting my truck up for sale. I've had many people ask me if it was for sale throughout the years and I've always been adamantly "NO!" Now that's changed. I don't have a clue what my truck is worth or what I should ask for it. Kinda makes me wish I'd have asked at least once what they'd offer for it! Can you guys help me to help you set a price for her? I'll start off and you can extract what you need to know from me about it to get it narrowed down.

Details: '70 SWB, no rust except small patches at lower front fenders.

'76 Cadillac 500 c.i. motor with Edelbrock Performer intake. New timing set, cap, rotor, coil, plugs, wires, adj. vacuum advance, water pump, t-stat. New ported oil pump. Deep sump oil pan. Recently rebuilt Quadrojet carb. New Optima red top battery. 2 1/2" dual exhaust with Flowmaster Delta 40 mufflers. Custom chrome side exit tips. New big-block 4 core radiator. New master cylinder, speed bleaders at the wheels. (4 wheel drum brakes.) New inner fenders, battery tray.

'76 Cadillac Th-400 tranny with new Summit deep sump alum. pan. New filter. Autometer electronic speedo gear with infinite adjustability for gear and tire changes running Autometer Ultra-lite speedo in cab. New complete dash panel upgrade with Autometer Ultra-lite gauges.

Richmond Gear 4.88 gears

ECE front sway bar kit. Poly bushings. Truck was lowered by previous owner, I don't know how much or what brand.

Thats a pretty quick one over, anything else I should elaborate on? Will be selling in pretty well to do big city environment. Cost of living in CA should be factored?

Very nice clean truck. Look in the local Auto/Truck Trader, on-line classic auto classifieds like Hemmings etc. Check the newspapers too in the Collector Car/Truck section. By the time you have done all that you will have a pretty good idea.

Did you do a frame off restoration?

Go to the Pamona Swap meet and look at what is for sale and, more importantly, what actually sells and for what price.

Stllookn, not a frame off resto, just a "front off" resto! Firewall forward...

70' 402, no, I don't have any extras. I used everthing in my truck and didn't really have any extras. Enjoy the Caddy power, I'm going to miss it!

P.S. Any rough guesses as to price?

I would guess 5-8k, Shortbeds fetch good prices in So. Cal. I would take it to Pomona and start high.

Pomona definitely sounds like a good idea to sell the truck, but the truck is in Sacramento (where I'm originally from) and it's pretty much out of the question. I live in the Phoenix, AZ area and will be coming to Sacto. to sell my truck. If I don't sell it while I'm back, I'll have to get family to sell it.

Shoot out some $$$$ figures!

$5000 for a quick sale locally, if you go to Pamona, start at $7500.

I'll agree on the $5-$8k figure. I'd love to have it, but i'm broke and it is over a thousand miles away...

I would think you could get $6500 in nor cal without too much trouble. I would list in wheels and deals and auto trader. A frind sold a 72 SWB last year that wasn't as nice as yours for that price with no prob. John

not to be picky ... your ride looks tight ... i'd put all those wires under in the hood in some looms ...would make it look much cleaner

I agree with you 71-longbed! That is an old pic and I have since cleaned it up. It looks much better than that picture gives credit. I always cringe posting old "nasty" pics but it's all I have!

Thanks for the info.

Whoa!
Thought that truck looked familiar...
Thought that user name looked familiar...

Not sure what you could get in this part of California. I'd guess at least $6K though with that big ol Caddy engine in there. I know from experience that it looks (and sounds) great.

Sorry you have to sell it. Understood though, stuff happens. Maybe put in the Northern Ca autotrader asking $7K? Just my guess...

Don't forget about CraigsList. That little site has a huge audience of local buyers.
http://www.craigslist.com/
Just be sure to remember to list in the correct city
