V8 Engine Color? Experts help!!

Does anyone have any literature showing correct engine color for a 1966 327 V8? The back of the owners manual has 283 and 327 as gray. BUT I have an original 327 truck motor and it is green (like 292 L6 green). I also know of 2 other trucks here local and under the grease and grime is factory green paint. Mine even still has the "High Torque 327" decal on the valve covers. Any ideas?? I am restoring my truck original and want to have some literature to back me up when I paint my engine green - I'm sure it will get questioned!!! Thanks.

Re: V8 Engine Color? Experts help!!

The correct color for a 1966 327 is green. There was a misprint in the 66 owners manual saying it was gray. Gray was the color of the 283. The 292 was also green and the 250 was blue.

Re: V8 Engine Color? Experts help!!

I was just wondering the same thing. My 283 I guess should be gray. Does anyone know of an engine paint that is the right color. Also does anyone have a good picture of the original paint scheme. Wondering what color to paint the brackets, vent tube , etc.

My books say blue for the 250 also. I found mine to be green under the 40 years of grease. Tom Langdon was at GM at the time and stated they were definitely not blue in 66 which was the first year for them in a truck.

A little dusty, and original 84K mile High Torque 1966 327.Clearly shows green. Hopefully someday, someone will offer correct engine colors in catalogs!

There is an old saying "Those who remember the sixties, weren't there"

Re: V8 Engine Color? Experts help!!

Well I definitely learned from this thread. I knew about the colors of some of the sixes, and the 283 being gray, but I've never seen a green 327. The original 327 that was in my 68 Camaro was orange, of course that is newer and a different application. Was the green on the 327 specific to a certain application and HP/TQ rating?

BTW JQ-72 that is one sweet 65 you used to have there. You did an awesome job!
