Looking good. I almost can't handle this piece by piece. I wanna see it done so bad. You definitely have a very unique truck.

Darn, I have to subscribe to another build.

Awsome work Frizzle, I can't wait to get my new shop this fall/winter so that I can start on ONE of my projects.

Thanks man! It's unreal to get mag coverage on a project that really started as a spur-of-the-moment whim. Josh did a good job of consolidating 30+ pages down into a magazine sized article. In fact, I just noticed that it is now online:
Here's the link to their main page.

And the article.

holy cow man. that's really cool. always neat to see someone from the forums make it to a mag, but then to have it be a project build, even better.

with this kind of coverage, I bet you'll get a good number of calls from guys looking for you to "tahoe-itize" their subs.

That exhausts is terrific, man, all I can say is that you pretty much won't be able to fit anything else under there, starting to look pretty tight.

Re: Joined the Short Wheelbase Club *69 Tahoe Project*

Thanks to everyone for the congrats.

Number98, It's made it to the big time; a magazine article. What else do you want?

Actually I had a busy month or three, but I'm back at it. I've finished all the final welding on the exhaust and ground all the butt-joints smooth. From the mufflers back has been painted with high-temp ceramic embedded paint. I also made some new brackets for the rear upper shock mounts (couldn't find exactly what I needed in the catalogs). I'm relocating the rear shocks to accommodate the full length exhaust. Last thing to do on the exhaust is the cross-over pipe in front of the AT xmember, then I'll paint the intermediate pipes and do the final install.

Here are the pics. The last pic is something else that's been taking up some of my time as well (just lowered the front and started painting the tires/wheels. yes painting the tires... we'll see how it works and go from there...). The rear will be lowered next weekend.

Frizzle,
I've never seen tires "painted" without them being smoothed first. How did you do that with all the letters intact?

Very cool btw!

I actually had never seen or heard of them before I found this one. It's a 66 Sunbeam Minx. They were more often badged as Hillmans under the Rootes group. It's about the size of a VW Notchback, but has a water cooled front/rear config. It'll be the new DD soon

Thanks. I don't know if it'll last but I read a few success stories about using plastic paint over clean/scuffed sidewalls. If nothing else it will give me the motivation to get real ones.

You can also go this route and use whatever tire you want:
http://www.vwparts.net/VW-70.html
They're available from other sources and in different widths but they work well. I've had blue ones on my bug with Michelins for years.
