Bed mat??
Hey Guys! I have been a member for some months but haven't done much in the forum due to active duty Navy obligations (sea duty). I just checked off the boat yesterday and am on shore duty for 3 yrs. So, I will be using this site as a source of much needed info while building my 72 GMC SWB, and hopefully make a few friends in the process.
I saw several posts on the question of bedliners. I want to put a rubber floor mat in mine. So far, it sounds like a mat for a 73 and up should fit pretty good. Anyone know? Also heard a dodge mat (not sure what year) will work also.

Pretty sure its just a generic liner. Truck acc shops will fix you right up. I had one given to me for my long bed that nobody knows what it came out of & it fits my truck just fine...

I found this thread for you. Looks like nobody makes them specifically for our trucks; from what I've read most just cut one to fit.

One thing to keep in mind, esp your location in Washington, rubber mats will trap water underneath, and it'll take forever to evaporate... which could lead to nasty rust. Rolling one out from time to time when needed is a great way to keep your bed from getting damaged, but installing one in a more perminate basis, could be bad news.

After not finding anything for my 71, I bought this one from Summit ('73-'86) for $70 plus shipping http://store.summitracing.com/partde...0&autoview=sku
It fits my shortbed well except it has cutouts for fuel fillers up front and the wheel well opening is larger on the front side. Here is a pic installed in my truck (sorry it's black on black) of the right front corner looking down from above.

What boat were you on. I was on the Ulysses S Grant, George C Marshall, Georgia and Florida...got out in 1991. I was an MTC(SS). Even did 4 years at TTF Bangor.
Used to live in Jackson Park. My brother is a STSCS(SS/SW) at TTF now. Lives in Jackson Park as well.

went to Tractor Supply tonight and saw a stack of stall mats outside. They're 4x6 feet and looked pretty heavy-duty. Decided to buy one to try as a bed mat. Picked the thing up and it must weigh 60 lbs! Haven't tried to cut it yet, but it should be fun.
The 4x6 stall mat was $40. A lot cheaper than the thinner rubber bed mats they were selling for $70. Just an idea. |

Just a thought about bed mats. Here in Miami, where we just took on 10" of rain in 36 hours, bed mats can be more detrimental then good. Trapping water/ humidity or condensation between the mat and the bed has done more damage to my bed then good. I think that Rhino lining or lineX just on the floor of the bed might not cost that much more then a bed liner. Not talking rail to rail here, just the bed. BTW If you have a way to Miami by bed mat is yours...

the tractor supply mat is awesome, but it's pretty hard to manage. it's HEAVY and only comes in 4x6 chunks, which is why it's in the back of my blazer. helps with noise and vibration very well.
