Question Metal floor to Wood?

Is it hard to change a metal floor to wood or is it possible on a shortbed fleetside??? What would have to be done?

metal to wood floor

Mudder,
It's not hard and can be done. I believe you have to pull the bed, change the front cross sill, both center sills, and the rear sill because the wood bed is of course thicker than the steel floor and the bed lines wouldn't line up.
Call Steve Boone @ Chevy Duty 816-741-8029...he is the man that produces all their oak and pine bedwood there on site and has will be able to answer all your questions.

So, I have a question, is the wood an upgrade from the steel, or the steel an upgrade from the wood?

Bed

You can find a junk long bed with wood floor fairly cheap to rob the header panel ,cross sills, tubs and rear panel.Buy new Goodmark shortbed sides, wood and strip kit and build a very nice bed for a reasonable price considering it would be a like new bed.

You can buy all the parts you need to build a short fleetside bed with a wood bottom. It is a little expencive but it can be done. I would also suggest that you start off with a junk long fleetside wood bed also. That way you have at least the templates to drill the cross sills, because most of the reproductions that I know of are not drilled for the bolts for the wear strips. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

in the truck my dad's cousin bought the guy laid plywood on top of the steel then ash boards on top and used stainless screws and screwed the bed strips to the plywood, only thing that set me off befor I looked Under the truck was the fact that the wheel wells weren't sitting on top of the wood...
