From what I have always heard about 86 and older trannies, is 100,000 miles, rebuild, repeat. Not sure about 87-up trannies...from what I hear they're stronger...anyways, no more rambling from me...ttt

Rebuild it and upgrade the internals to at least 1987-spec...149k out of a 700R4 is good, really good...but especially if you're dropping it into something else other than the minivan again, I bet you'll be pulling it again to rebuild later if you don't do it now.

1989 Astro van. The transmission has 396,000 miles and has never been worked on. The fuild has only been changed 3 times. Still going, but did start slipping about 10,000 miles ago. But it only slips when you are on it hard.

You should rebuild the trans. 6cyl and 8cyl trans are different from what i was told. They have less clutches and steels = less holding power. Just tell the shop its going behind a v8 and you want to tow with it, and they should be able to hook you up.

Its not worth it to do all that work to put the tranny only to have it fail on you when you are 20 miles out of town. Get it rebuilt while its out and convienent
