I put a new filter on it, but moved it FAARRR far away from the engine bay. Its in the rear frame rail...

I didnt realize there were metal ones until yesterday. ahaha..

So, i started it again today. I turned it over a few times, built some fuel and oil pressure, then the 2nd crank it fired right off. No fire, barely any smoke.. I only got to run it for about 5-7 minutes or so, then i shut it down. I dont have a fan on it yet, just the box fan. Also, the damn plug wires that i made, and have go under the headers still a tad bit close to the headers and they will not last like that. Im going to suck it up and buy the kind that come out straight then go over the valve covers. I didnt want to do that, but i want reliability...

Thats it for now. Once i pick up the electric fan and get that mounted im not going to run it again. Now that i got the bugs and fires worked out i can mount the cab and get to the rest..

i see you have the air lines from the Viairs running through the frame right toward the muffler..

just make sure you have at least six inches i would say..

i have melted quite a few airlines myself from being too close to exhaust..

im sure you have already taken that into consideration though.

We have ignition,we have fuel, we have start. We have fire... uhh ohhh.... fire!!!!!!!!

Glad there wasn't much damage,it's always scary starting a new one.Little glitches like you had aren't uncommon.Glad you're dealing with it well.

The airlines go through the center of my homemade tranny crossmember. 2x4 steel 1/8 inch thick. You think that will be ok?? The exhaust is an inch away from that crossmember. I didnt think it would get that hot...

Ya, i realized it wasnt that bad.. Just the sight of the fire traumatized me. I had it all back and ready to go a few hours later. One thing that did happen was when i shut the truck off, it deiseled and wouldnt shut off. for a sec or two...

Since im breaking it in, i cant really adjust the timing because i cant let it idle. What is a good way to get the timing close???? Can you adjust the timing when its at 1800 rpms???

ok i see what your saying..

running it through the crossmember is definitely alot better.

although i cant say they wont melt, time will tell though, but i would think they would be okay

its good up to 180 i believe. THe crossmember exterior was 100 degrees... So i dont think it will be an issue.

you can adjust your total timing. That will get you close and you can still have higher revs.

ok, so my engine builder gave me a number that was for TOTAL timing. it was between 30-40 degrees. Is that what your talking about???

so take the timing light, and use the degree advance button. Im pretty sure i know what that is. Aim it at the crank and with it set at say 30 degrees it should read right on the crank correct?

LMAO...I do love my hubcaps thats for sure. I also love the wheels from when I was a kid getting into cars and trucks too. These chrome daisys might look cool on a future ride.
