Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

I work for the DMV in Tennessee. Here you can sign an afadavit of non use where you sign that you havent driven the vehicle in X amount of years and the county clerk will waive your fee. I work with a girl that transferred from California, I can check with her on Monday and see if there is a similar form out there.

That's exactly what I would be if I lived in the Bay area-or anywhere in Cal for that matter.

But seriously, every time one of these threads comes up I'm amazed at how many Californians say that they hate living there. MOVE OUT!!! Just-not to Utah

Just messin' .... I get the everyday misspellings, but that one always cracks me up!

Then again, that may be the exact word you intended in this case!

We rely on that myth for this very reason

There's a really foul, disgusting joke that sums up what many people around here feel (not me, of course-I grew up in Calif.) I can't post it here, probably not even in shop talk if I could get there, but if anyone wants to hear it, PM me.

At least our property taxes are low thanks to prop 13. The politicans would love to get rid of that.

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

Been there too, normally they would work with you and remove some of the back fees but since the state is broke and dmv workers still on furlough not likely anymore.

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

Find someone in a easy state to transfer titles. AL, MS or MN are the ones I know. Sign your title saying you sold the truck to them. Have that person transfer the title to their name and then sign new title back over to you. Then you take the new title in, in CA and you will only owe transfer and current fees. Good luck

That isn't quite as simple as it sounds with the Vin on file on the computers in Cali. Maybe 35 years ago a guy could get away with it easy enough when everything was on paper and the records were stashed in a file cabinet in a warehouse somewhere. Now when they punch it in it will probably come up red flagged as as having been titled in the state but not registered.

If he can get it down to 200 he is probably better off to do that and call it the price of education.

In this state it doesn't matter if you let one sit and don't register it for a few years. They get cranky if you go in to transfer a title that is dated and the date is way past the 15 days allowed for transfer though. I have one out here in the yard now that will cost me a 100 dollar penalty when I transfer the title. I have a couple that I went TPO (title purpose only) on when I bought them and have clear titles to but no registration and I didn't have to pay the extra taxes but that will come when I tag them if I ever do. No non operational fees either but those Seattle Democrats will probably figure out how to try to stick us with that along with all the other screwball things they bring up over in Olympia.

It's not $$$ if you are responsible. My 72 SWB registration is less than $100 a year and is smog exempt.

Re: Dmv fees need your help!!!!

I love California, just not all the people here. Same thing happened to me when I built a prior classic. Did not know about the whole non-op thing and got nailed for hundreds in back dmv fees. Sucks. Live and learn.

That's too funny!
I wish I really meant to say that. That's what I get for not looking at my spell checker closely enough!
