new one by me. I've been tought the blades should be 1/2 way in and 1/2 way out of the shroud.

Nope, not as loud as mine for sure! It's pretty mellow for a symmetrical flex.

That would help save the clutch on a clutch fan. Maybe that's what you were thinking of. This is a flex fan.

Update:Today I jerked out the trailer brake that guy installed and polished off the last of the crappy jenky wiring set up. Not one wire nut on the whole truck now . Pulled out the rest of the crappy wiring from the radio they had and all the duct work inside, seeing as how it was old and brittle and broke. Took out the seat cover and got a look at the damage to the seat itself and as I suspected, it's pretty dang rough. I'm going to get some measurements and sew my own fitted cover before the meet. Also dad fitted the kick down to the carb, but doesn't seem to be working.

Problems:Since I replaced the belt, it's got a pretty bad squeal that starts in about 2500 to 3000 rpms. I had to tighten the belt pretty dang tight, since it's the wrong brackets for the engine. Actually had to take off the valve cover to pull the alternator forward far enough to get it on. Pulled it tight and it has maybe a millimeter of clearence from the cover. Not sure if it's so tight that it's making a bearing squeal or if it's the belt just breaking in. Might have to measure it and go get a 1/4 inch longer belt.

Also decided to check the power steering fluid and it's dry. Must be what's got the suspension completely covered in grease and muck.

Plus I've got either an exhaust leak or fairly loud lifter. My guess is exhaust, but not sure.

I'm not too worried about it. Going to a 4 core radiator on a 305, not gonna be a whole lot of overheating going on . I am running a 195 thermostat, but that's to run the TBI heads a little hotter. Thanks for the thought, though.

keep an eye on the guage.
It may not overheat, but that fan is too far in regardless of how it's run.

Actually, I'll retract my previous statement.

How far should I put my fan into the shroud opening ?
As close to half in and half out as possible.

It should be as close to half in/half out as possible. Increasing the core doesn't add any more cooling capacity if the right depth isn't achieved. Cruised it a little more today. Can't get the squeal to quit, so gonna get just a SLIGHTLY bigger belt. I'm having to troubleshoot this a lot because the 350 brackets that are on the 305 are too small for the size of alternator that's on it. The alternator hits the valve cover and leaves me like an inch or so to tighten the belt. I did leave some tread and a lot of squealing out by dad's, though.

I thought the 305 and 350 blocks were close enough that the brackets wouldn't make that big of a difference. Are the brackets the ones from the Camaro that the engine came out of?
