Post Need your input on transmission selection....

The guy that bought my 69 C-10 just had a 355 engine built with a 270 comp cam........flat tops......dual plane intake........300HP heads etc...........the rear end is the 9 inch Ford I put in, with 3.70 gears and a traction loc unit.........rear tires are 29x15.5/15 Hoosier Pro Street radials................I told him to put either a 700R4 or a 350TH with a 1,800 to 2,000 stall in it............he told me today, that several people have told him to get a powerglide and a 3,000 stall................Any ideas on the reasoning behind this? Are glides all that great for street driving? Just need some ideas...........Thanks, Brad

In a heavy truck, i would NOT run a powerglide. Imagine driving a truck with a TH350, but not having 1st gear and trying to start out in second from a stop. In a 2500 pound race car with 4.88 gears and 600 horsepower a powerglide would be GREAT, but for a 4,000 truck, a TH400, TH350 or 700R4 would work much better.

I agree completly

If the truck was 3000 lbs. or so a pg would work well but it would be to much for a driver! I would suggest a nice 700r4 built with Corvette servo for that firm shift.
