It's official: FSOT 70 CST K5

I have decided I don't realy want/need a blazer & a pickup will suit my needs better. I have one person in line for a possible trade. I will know more about that this weekend.

What I have:
70 K5 4X4
350 runs but could use a rebuild
sm465/205
~5-6" lift: 4" ranchos up front, ORD shackle flip in rear with 1" ORD zero rates. 1" body lift with new poly bushings. New tranny/tcase poly bushings.
3/4 ton 8lug axles from a 72 truck 4.10 ratio, open
35x16.5 BFG MT's
Custom roll cage
Originally an auto, AC truck but the AC components are gone.

The truck isn't perfect, but it's a decent truck. I have pics of the truck & the "trouble spots" in webshots http://community.webshots.com/user/bft46


If I sell it, my wife gets all the money so I would rather trade it for a 69-72 SWB truck. There are also other trades I would consider so whatcha got? The 69-72 truck must have pwr steering & power brakes(wife's stipulation).

If I sell it, the asking price is $5500. I will be spending the next week polishing up bumpers, rims, paint, etc & then put a sign on it in front of the house, but I wanted to offer it here first. If you happen to live in this area & drive by to look at it, let me know that you are from this board. I will give you a complete run down of what I think are problems with it. The average person off the street gets the standard, "It's a decent truck. Take it for a test drive & see if you want it."

In webshots, you will need to look in the new k5 pics folder for the updated pics.

And I forgot to mention the biggest problem with the truck. The hard top will not fit. The main hoop of the cage is a little too wide. I still have the old hard top but it was in poor shape when I got it & then we had to cut it around the main hoop just to get it to sit down enough to bolt on.
The top is also missing the latch assy for the rear hatch.

My reason for selling(yes I know it's a poor excuse): A soft top costs $600 & also I would rather not deal with leaks associated with these blazers. Yes I'm a big


The other reason is I don't want to offroad a nice 1st gen, but it's built for it so I know I will if I keep it.

i saw when you posted about getting the roll cage put in, but i don't remember if it is just bolted in or is it actually welded in? i'm just curious as to how easy it would be to pull that out.

There are plates tacked underneath the truck with bolts welded to them. The cage is easily removeable. All you have to do is unbolt it from the top & get a few buddies to help lift it out. It also goes back in easily since the plates are welded underneath.

That was one of the things I specifically requested was that it was easy to remove & reinstall without needing one person under the truck holding a wrench on the nut.

TTT one last time & then I will give up on my search for a swb truck.

I have been DD'ing the truck for a couple weeks. It's running well & hasn't given me a single problem. I am also almost finished making a bikini top for it.

Let me know if you have anything you might want to trade for this truck. If we trade vehicle for vehicle & yours has a good engine, I will throw in a SB400 since I know my engine isn't great.

I hate the way this sounds, but I would have to ask my wife.

Personally, I would be interested. I guess it would depend on the condition. Pm me with some specifics on your truck & any links to pics you might have.

There's actually lots of things I'm interested in. MOst of them my wife would shoot down though. I know she would shoot down a trade for a harley, but I'm also keeping an eye out for an older ski nautique type boat.

I have my wife's 70 to build so I'm game for trading for a newer truck, possibly a sports car, a boat, a harley(even though my wife would kill me), or a new roof on my house .

I guess I have a warped point of view about the value of my truck. I thought it would be easy to trade it for a truck. I was wrong.

There are many vehicles I like, so I'm not completely set on trading this only for a 69-72 truck. I would still prefer a truck, but am open to other things(older wakeboard boat for one).

My wife really wants a new roof & new windows. I know the roof will be expensive, but if we find out the windows are cheaper, I will lower the price & try to sell it so she can have her new windows. Don't know why I felt the need to tell you guys that. I must be bored.

did you call pete and ask him about the roof? I know he is restoreing a tv of this era he might need/want some parts.

I didn't call. I have absolutely no extra cash. I'm figuring a roof will run $7000-10,000. My truck's worth at best $6000(and that would have to be for someone who has a deep love for these k5's), but closer to $4000-5000.

I don't want to waste someone's time to come out & give an estimate when I can't afford to get the work done.

I went ahead & tried to call Pete. Of course the secretary wouldn't let me speak to him personally. I didn't want to ask her to give him a message about trading a truck for a roof cause that sounds just plain crazy.

If you know him personally & think he would be interested in doing some trading, maybe you could ask him. If you don't know him that well, I will eventually call back & leave a message. As long as it's not too expensive, I could probably make up the difference by putting it on a credit card.
