Doesnt the chrome strip at the top of the rear panel help to form the needed contour? I dont see the strip I am thinking about in any of the pics.

You can go all the way past the piece in the front if you put a formed spacer across the top edge as seen here:

I think maybe these strips were only on the CST models (or those with the rear panels). Heres the best shot I have from pre disassymbly.

Ok, so the metal strip creates a straight line for the panel.... thinking........

The metal trim does not make it a straight line it simply went over the origional panel in-between the front and rear posts. The trim slides over the panel.

The spacer plan is a good one but you would not be able to use the stock chrome trim, if you had it. It was a CST trim piece. The spacer and panel would be to thick for the trim to slide over.

Here are picts I put a trim on a 72 that is awaiting interior. I mocked up the trim so you could see it.

On my other 72 I had my upolstry guy use a thin piece of plywood and then covered it with vinyl to match. The plywood was thin enough that we could bend it around the posts and use screws to hold in place.

If you could use a thin piece of allum that could be held with screws around the post that would be cleanier and like stock.

Why not just make them the same dimension as original panels, so they fit using the buyers existing hardware? No need for spacers, etc.

I'm assuming (bad idea, right

) that it's because there's not much of the CST hardware out there. anyone w/out the panels originally doesn't have the hardware so this is an option for them. Like my blazer that didn't have it. Plus, I like the way my panels look covering the end panels vs having those painted panels showing between the panel. It's a sleeker look IMHO (FWIW)

I hear ya, I didn't know the CST package was that rare, seems half or more of the blazers I've come across were. How about a short and long version? One for those that have the mounts, and a kit for those that don't or would like a more custom look covering the end panels.

Alumabond is slick just like regular aluminum. Alumabond is out now because I will have to put two breaks in order to fill the gap. I am going to mock up the panels out of aluminum. I have been swamped and will be getting back on this soon. The one thing that does concern me is how to ship them without them getting damaged.

Another option would be to make your own trim piece so the panels will work for owners whether they have they trim or not.

Ok, I have really dropped the ball on this one. We have been extremely busy and short handed (had a guy quit, I know in this economy, that's unheard of). What I CAN offer right now is full size paper patterns so that anyone can produce them from the material they want. I can do $25 + shipping in the continental US. Eventually, I will produce the panels, I just don't have the time for R&D right now. Thanks everyone.
