I'm working on a deal to buy a 88 burb, should know in the next few days if we can work out a price on it.

I was just wondering was the rear A/C and heat an option on the 88's? Is it hard to find the parts to convert a non-rear A/C setup and put one in? By any chance does anyone have some pics of what those rear A/C setups looked like?

I think it was an option on a lot of burbs. My 84 didn't have rear a/c in it, I installed our myself. I took everything from the underlines back, made the hole in the rear to run the lines up to the ac unit and mounted it myself. Take all wires also with it. What exactly do you need pics of?

I was just mainly wondering if it was possible to convert one over to rear A.C. and what would be required. Don't bother with the pics now, I haven't bought the burb yet - If I get it I might bug you a bit later for some more info ok?

Mounting A/C in the rear isn't hard but getting everything you need will be. Unless you find a donor with everything still intact, your never gonna find it all.
You wiil need the switch, the lines, the rear unit, the attaching hardware, and the panel to cover the lines. I would suggest replacing the expansion valve if you find a used unit.

And I do not believe the rear ever had heat. But I've been wrong before.

You'd probably still have to get some donor parts-- grille shell and rear unit housing. But, LMC lists lots of the parts in its Suburban Catalog.

If nothing else, it's good for exploded parts diagrams!

My '90 Sub has factory rear heat. It is the size of a six pack cooler and mounted on the passenger side rear.

i saw about half a dozen with the rear ac ac and some with heat also. most look complete

So when was the rear heater introduced? I have looked at many trucks here in Texas and haven't seen one yet. I hate the cold season we get here and an extra heater would be REAL nice.

The heat is easy , either tap into your heater core lines and a control valve , there are a few companies that make a heater core in a box . I don't really care for the electric ones .
The AC just find a donor truck , the belly lines are the hardest thing to find .. clean ones . Thats why a parts truck with a sealed system is prefered ... I just finished re doing the rear air in my build ... was all hacketed up ... some installed a new blower in the hanging condenser and had the wheels all jammed up ... just made a mess .
I had custom front lines made to join to a dodge compressor ... going to pick up some 134 today , I pulled a vacuum on my system all night and its right where I left it .

my 88 had it both
AC sprung a leak didn't bother to fix it,capped it off
then the heat too
mine had both together in the roof

I've got an '88 with the AC... but no heat. I also would like to know about upgrading to add heat. The AC works great.
