Roof Rack Mounting Points

Hey Guys , I'm just getting into the body area of my build , most of my rust is on the roof of my suburban being a California truck the sun took its toll plus someone thought they could do bodywork ... filled the old rack holes body filler .
The roof could be worst than it is ... I'm just sand blasting the pitted areas to remove as much rust as possible .
I am going to fabricate my own roof rack using aluminum , going for a pretty beefy rack considering I may throw a 41" tire up there ... well lift it with a forklift .
I'm going to ad some inner support plates that are atleast 2" x 6" , just tacked in place with the rack mount bolted thru .
Just wondering if you guys with custom racks did any added supports ?

I'll gets some picks up once the rack starts taking shape .

Thanks guys .

Re: Roof Rack Mounting Points

Would like to hear about any added supports. I intend on making my own rack too, and never even thought about adding extra support. Haven't even gotten to the actual planning stage yet either tho.

And please do post pics when it does start taking shape.
