Lovin my ugly 72 GMC! - see spid typo

Just got this 1972 GMC yesterday. 1 owner truck that has been sitting a while. Original medium olive / light yellow paint scheme. When I first saw it, I thought it was kinda ugly, but after I cleaned it up - I love it!! Below are some before and after pictures. I've got to detail the inside and I'll post more pictures.

For the SPID decoders, check this out. The truck is clearly a Sierra, no woodgrain dash and has Sierra bedside emblems. Glovebox says "Sierra Grande" but has Z84 code, which is Sierra or Cheyenne. Typo?? Also, I found the build sheet behind the gas tank cardboard and it says "Sierra" I'm tempted to stick on woodgrain dash and glovebox applique and call it a Grande!

Thats very similar to the one I'm trying to sell now- Spids are similar too. Yours is probably in better shape though. Mine is a chevy and a little older.

wash the roof with CLR, it'll get rid of that 'sun burn' rust.

Re: Lovin my ugly 72 GMC! - see spid typo

I'll get interior shots later - still working on it! I'll try the CLR on the roof. I went to local auto parts stores and tried to find a Dupli-color touch up paint to do the top with, but no luck matching it up.

What I like about that color combo is it's as if it were offered for the older fellers from the '50s when you saw that combo on most any car made. I just saw a Studebaker yesterday with those colors.
My '72 K2500 is also a Sierra with Sierra Grande on the SPID. I've seen that done quite a bit.

Re: Lovin my ugly 72 GMC! - see spid typo

In post #6, the CST (which I is equal to the Sierre Grande) option is labeled as Z84. Maybe they used that option label for all higher trim levels. Sierre, Sierre Grande, CST, Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I've got a CST. I'll check mine to see what it says.

Re: Lovin my ugly 72 GMC! - see spid typo

69-70 highest trim level was CST (Z84). In 71-72 Cheyenne Super (YE9) was the highest level. I've seen in 1971 where Chevy and GMC would call a Cheyenne or Sierra a Custom Sport Truck on the SPID. I've got about 5 Sierra Grande glove box doors and they all say Cheyenne Super on the SPID. The truck above is an Atlanta built unit.

Here's a few interior shots. I went ahead and added the woodgrain to the dash. Bummer - the radio does not work.

Uh...Sierra Grandes had carpet, not bare metal floor...DUH!! I'd love to have a truck just that way. Especially a color combo that draws comments the way yours will.
