Questions about a truck I'm looking at

First, I'm sorry about the crappy cell pics but it's all I have right now. I have found this truck and I think $1200 or possibly $1k would buy it. 67 SWB fleet but it looks like maybe a 68+ bed on it .. hard to say I have never actually seen the truck. I am planning on looking at it today if I can get off work before dark.

My question is, Does this look like a CST too you ? If I zoom in on the pics it looks like it had side trim on it at one time. Did they come in this color in 67? Butternut Yellow maybe? It has the chrome trim in the grille, headlight buckets, sport mirrors, windshield trim, what looks like vent window trim etc. Humm .. Worth looking at anyway. If that's original paint the front cup looks really good too.

Does that look like a big dent in the pass door to you? The guy says it runs and drives. .. ?? I'm going to go check it out asap.

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

Could be a 68-71 with a 67 front clip.
Look for the obvious 67-68 stuff.
(hand brake under dash, 67 only vent windows, wiper and headlight switch on the same side of the dash bezel, etc)
I assume the vin number will tell you what it really is.

Money seems right, 67 short fleet is cool, does look like a dent in the door but dents are easy, rust hurts. Looks like the hood is a little wavy but it might be a good buy. Go check it out.

Is that overspray below the grille? That might help determine if it is factory color or not.

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

The dent in the door is most likely from the door check thingy being broken in the upper door hinge. The door will open up farther with the door check broken. The front fender will put a dent in the door like that.

My driver side door is like that as well. It isn't really noticable straight on but when viewing from an angle, you can see it.

According to my 1968 Chevy truck data book, there is a light yellow color for the exterior available. Solid, 520. Two-tone, 550.

Seems like a pretty good price. I would be interested in what you find out about it.

Good luck,

Keith

If it runs at all---and isnt completely eaten up with rust, You can part it out and recover more than $1K----

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

first thing i'd look at is the frame and see if it is a real short bed frame or an aborition of a chopjob fantasy

with the rear lmarker lights the bed is at least a 68 or newer

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

Interesting "bumper". Looks likely to be a mix of trucks that's been re-painted. The sport mirrors look like the 71-72 style, bed is 68-up, front is 67 (or 68 with marker holes and chevrolet hood letters filled)

Still probably worth 1000-1200 if the bed is decent and there's other saveable parts (if it's a swb frame)

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

Yeah, I think the bumper may be an old chrome side step off a Jeep or something and what looks like overspray might be the reflection off the lower grille section.

I'm not expecting much for the price ($1300 obo) but maybe it has an old DZ block in it or something .. ? A set of Buddies I could re-sell? It's only a few min away form the house I can go check it out. I'm thinking it's prob a repaint, full of filler and/or rust .. we'll see I guess. My bet is a 71-72 with a 67 clip. Nothing wrong with that .. but .. still worth looking at.

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

I think you might be right about the truck being a 1971/1972 with a 1967 front clip. It appears that the rear view mirror is attached to the windshield and not mounted to the cab ceiling.

Let us know what you find out.

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

Nothing original about this truck. It seems worth the money. It's had hands all over it,though. So just look it over well as a good starter truck. Check the rust and see if frame is original. Look for the shortbed WB on the SPID

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

ZzzZzzzz .. Huh? Huh ??

(j/k) I didn't get a chance to go, it just gets dark so dad gum early this time of year. I'll try to get by there maybe Sat and check it out. It's prob worth the time to look but I doubt I'll do anything with it unless it's a good solid cab / bed etc. I asked the guy for more pictures and he hasn't replied so far. I have a couple magnets in my pocket right now incase I can go after work. The wife wasn't too crazy about the idea though .. (she and I work the same place and ride together)

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

$1300 for that!! If it had no major rust issues I'd jump all over that! However, in the northeast it's hard just finding a C10 shortbed that someone doesn't want triple what it's worth and still has hacked work or rust issues

Re: Questions about a truck I'm looking at

No go .. It would need typical stuff I'm sure and I want to focus on my BB truck for now. I'm not even going to try to look at it. The wife didn't say no, but I got one of those looks .. Know what I mean?

If someone else is interested, I'll tell you where it is / phone number. PM me, I'll tell you where I found it.
