When I saw what you were going for, it reminded me of the truck GM built in the sixtys as a concept with a Camaro to match. I think 'Hot Wheels' even made a replica of it. Anyways, I tried doing a search with no luck. I did find this design for the Good Guys show truck - maybe something of interest to you. Either way keep at it. Looking good.

I have seen that rendering before. There are some things I like about it and some things I don't. Most of what I don't like is the grille on the Apache SS. I have also seen the GM concept truck that had a RS Camaro grille and a RS Camaro on a trailer behind it. I am really trying to keep the appearance of the truck as close to what GM may have done as possible. My goal is to hit some car shows and have people wonder if an SS pickup was actually a production option. Thanks for the input and be sure to keep following the progress!

Finally had some time to work on the truck, we had been busy atwork finishing a car for the hot Rod power tour. Nothing exciting to report, more bodywork and Sanding. I finally got the passenger bed side and door ready for primer. Should be shooting primer in a few minutes.

First coat of high build pimer, next sand it out with 220 and correct any minor pinholes or scratches I missed, then one more coat of high build then same and paint.

Filled in th old heater openings in the dash to clean up the look of the firewall a bit and mounted the vintage air evaporator under the dash. I also cut the rockers off so I could start the rust repair there.

I made one of the best purchases ever today. A sandblaster! I have to say if you have a place to use one it makes life so much easier. I can't believe I waited so long. Anyway, back to the truck 400 lbs of sand later the inside and outside of the cab have been blasted. Now I just have to figure out the best way to do the bottom and then tackle the rust I have found, which wasn't a whole bunch more than I already knew about. The unfortunate thing is always the PO, or maybe the PO before him. Someone thought that body filler would be a good seam sealer as well as the correct repair for pinholes around the fender bolts in the cowl. Glad I stripped off the primer that was on it, I (as we'll as most) have been burned by assuming work already done was done properly.

What kind of sandblaster did you pick up and where if i may ask? I was literally looking at one today at TSC. It was a 20 gallon black bull i believe. I hesitated on buying it though it had mixed reviews.

I would also like to know. I'm at the same point on my cab and I assumed the previous work was done properly but I was in for a rude awakening when I started cleaning it up.

It is a 10 gallon black bull from Rural King which is a lot like a TSC. I paid $99 for it, so i didn't expect too much. It worked very well for its size. Mine came with a water separator and controlled the 75% humidity with no problems. My 60 gallon porter cable 10.5 CFM compressor keeps up, but barely, it came with 5 ceramic nozzles and I wore two of them out going through 400 lbs of sand.It holds just under 100 lbs and runs about an hour on a full tank. The one thing I didn't like is the quality of the supplied blast hood, I plan on getting a nicer one. Overall I am very satisfied for the price.

This build is great. I love the ideas going in here. Also just picked up a blaster. It works great with the fine sand but anything bigger those nozzles get clogged. I also only have a 28 gal 10cfm and 90 psi tank.

Flipped the cab onto its back to tackle some rust before I hit it with the sandblaster. All four outer supports, inner and outer rockers, front and back a pillar repair panels have been purchased and hopefully will arrive before next weekend.

Just a sample of what all four outer supports looked like. I removed both fronts and started patching the drivers floor where the support had started to weaken the floor itself.

I started on the SS Camaro hood modification. In keeping with the theme of what a '68 SS pickup might have looked like, I am grafting the center velocity stack "ice cube trays" from a '68 Camaro SS hood into the truck hood. It seemed best to install the whole center section including the pointed peak to give the hood a more aggressive look. Unfortunately the '67 Chevy hood I have wasn't in the best shape. It appeared that a flex fan had decided to come apart and put a whole bunch of outward dents in the hood. The good thing was this made the hood a prime candidate for modifiaction, the bad news was I could not get all those dents out without a major oil can problem, so I replaced a section out of the drivers side of the hood while I installed the center of the Camaro hood. Pics show the process, I still have quite a bit of welding to do next weekend.
