Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?

When I first brought the 62 out this year I ran the 61 hood because the 60/66 hood was still in the works

either way - win win IMHO

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?

I have to admit...I did not care for the early GMC hoods but after looking at these pictures...WOW...they really look good. The black one up above really looks clean!!! They all look fantastic.

Here is my 61 hood in the early stages of restoration...4 year restoration.

Below is one at one of the first shows we ever went to a couple weeks back. Welded up all the seams on the hood and the front clip to clean up the lines. Even welded and molded the corner cowls before relieving a bit of the body line down the sides.

Its amazing...people still love these old trucks. They always stop and want to share a story about how they wish they had kept there old trucks of this generation.

To me...its these 60-61 hoods that really set em apart from larger number of 64-66 trucks...thanks for a trip down memory lane and allowing me to share...

Here’s my new to me 61 Apache 30. As much as I hate to lose the patina I do not like these hoods. I plan to change to 62-66 hood.

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?

My Grandfather had a '60 when I was a kid. I always had a thing for old Chevy trucks but honestly didn't care for the 60-61 hood. Well, when I turned 16, guess what my Dad got me???!? Yep, a beat up '61. It grew on me very quickly, hood and all. I lost the '61 in an accident but found this '60 shortly thereafter. I gotta have the hood...

My 61 K20 when I drug it home. Currently it's in pieces all over the place but all the rust is finally gone. I've got some minor body work to do yet and hopefully get it painted this summer. Hoping to get the 348 rebuilt over the winter yet as well

Re: How many '60 and '61 "Ugly Snout" trucks survive?

I just picked up a '60-'61 GMC hood, which I intended to use as wall art but once I looked it over I realized it would be a shame to cut it up as it is in excellent condition. I am now toying with the idea of putting it on my '63 but am not sure how that would look. I did go through the other thread with the hood/grille combo's to see the '63 Chevy grille and '60 GMC hood and am not totally sold on the look.
I really like these hoods - I am so conflicted.
