Stock Air Intake?

Hey Guys,
I'm trying to keep things pretty simple on the l92 swap. I know there are cold air intakes made for these, but I kind of like how quite the factory intakes are. My problem is that I need to do the air box on the drivers side. I'm trying to use a factory surge tank and keep the battery tray in the stock location also, so the passenger side is a little crowded. Has anybody used a stock air box on the driver side? If so what vehicle was it from? I looked at the Camaro boxes, but I'm not sure they will fit around the alternator. Pics would be great!!! Thanks Guys!!

Re: Stock Air Intake?

what about something straight forward, if you have room above the radiator, you'll have airflow through the nostrils on the hood.

Re: Stock Air Intake?

I looked at that idea. No nostrils on my hood, '72 Suburban. The way the core support is set up with the stock hood there is no room for air to go over the core support. Bummer!!

Re: Stock Air Intake?

I attempted to do it. I could not get it all to fit, so I moved the battery.

I agree, easier to move the battery.

Any particular reason you're keeping the surge tank? A factory '72 raadiator is all you need to cool these engines. Surge tank just adds to the clutter in my opinion.

I modified the core support to utilize the donor (08 escalade) radiator and dual electric fans. They came with the engine. By doing it this way I can use stock radiator hoses and lines without having to buy other parts etc (I reused the tranny lines and tranny cooler also) or having to hunt down a radiator hose that fits correctly. I did consider moving the battery tray, however the AC line bracket off of the bottom of the tray makes the perfect spot for the leg of the surge tank to mount. I was going to move the tray anyway but my sanden AC compressor mount from dirty dingo looks like it will interfere with the air duct plumbing.

Re: Stock Air Intake?

I couldn't find a factory air box I liked so I made one with fiberglass to fit.

Re: Stock Air Intake?

I like it! I really need to learn how to work with fiberglass! Unfortunately I don't have the timeline with this build to do it before I need to get it done. Wish I did! That looks great!!

Re: Stock Air Intake?

In that case you might check out air boxes from LT1 camaros. I know they are on the driver side, but don't know if it will work or not. May just have to do the junkyard crawl. The problem is that the majority of these newer tiny engine cars have tiny airboxes with tiny air inlets. It would stink to choke your new engine down.
