New C20 Custom Camper Questions/Advice

To better fit the family I sold my truck a while back and have been missing having one. I have borrowed my dad's probably 4 times in the past couple months to pack stuff around with. So I have been looking for a pickup to cruise around in and haul some things with. I have a 72 K5 so I figured I would try to find another 71-72 to round out the fleet. My requirements were that it had to be a running operational truck so I could use it right away and not dump a bunch of money into it to just get it road worthy. I'm on a budget so price is definally an issue. I would prefer something that was basically original and not modified. I really have wanted a swb fleetside for some time, but around here they are hard to find and if you do find one it is either very expensive, or a pile of parts, neither of which fit my critera. I ended up purchasing this truck and am so far very pleased with it. I have been looking for 1/2 tons but many I have seen have been beat to s*it or are out of my price range. I then saw this 3/4 custom camper on CL. And now its mine.

I showed the good side 1st. Really only two dents on the thing, one on the passenger's bedside. (I have the trim piece), and one on the passenger's door. (Just below the mirror upper mounting, hard to see in the pic.)

I found a couple soft spots one in the passenger rocker and one on the firewall above the heater blower housing

And the miles are supposed to be actual.

Re: New C20 Custom Camper Questions/Advise

Now for some questions,
It appears to have some aftermarket cruise control mounted on it, The throttle cable is disengaged so I don't know if it works but was wondering if these are worth anything to anyone or just something to take off and throw away?

There is also an aftermarket AC system in it. There is no compressor though. And I'm not seeing a spare pully to run one. AC would be nice to have, do you think it would be worth the money/time to see if it works or yank it out as well?

I know some trucks came with an additional battery tray from the factory. This has one but it doesn't seem factory to me the way it is mounted, any conformation on that?

Re: New C20 Custom Camper Questions/Advice

Give me a SPID and I will break it down if you like. Looks like a pretty good truck all around. The hang-on A/C can probably be restored pretty easily. Most used the York style compressor that are pretty rugged.
The cruise might be an earlier kit, if you decide to take it out be sure it goes into a box with my name on it. :-)
There are some service instructions in the 70 service manual that will give an idea of the total system.
The battery tray is aftermarket as is the battery switch on the right fender.

Here is the spid....
And from your comment I'm assuming the cruise might be worth looking into getting working again?

Also in the pic of the cruise there is a little black box just below it that is wired to an on off switch. The box feels like it has some sort of level/pendulem inside of it. If you wiggle the truck you can hear it swinging back and forth. Any guesses on that one?

Re: New C20 Custom Camper Questions/Advice

Nice SPID looks like it is a 7500lb C20. Everything looks as expected, almost. The RPO code is missing Z81 from the SPID for the "Custom Camper" emblems and they appear to be added as I suspect many were. There is another thread running on this subject and I invite you to add comments and specifc pictures to that thread. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s....php?p=6060482
As your truck appears to have all the required equipment, no foul.

The cruise is something I would fully survey and at least try to restore functionality to. There are threads if you wish to search them out showing installations and differences. As I said before the 70 manual has a full service section for the factory cruise. But if not... box it up. Planning on building a road truck and some sort of cruise is in the plan.
The "box" sounds like an early alarm motion sensor. But ther may be other similar items I can't think of at the moment.
