Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

I am getting close to being done with my prep work on my truck so that I can shoot it with PLASTI-DIP. I have had success with this product before and really like it so I am planning on doing the whole truck, its just that most of their product only comes in matte colors or those that can be glossy dont really look good IMO.

I am not the biggest fan of chrome, it has its place I just like to be different. So I plan to go with either gloss or matte black accents (headlight bezels, grille hoops, custom 10 decal, tinted rear brake light, "chevrolet" on my tailgate)

Here is a pic before I shaved the marker lights and did all my prep to give you an idea of what Im starting with. rear will be dropped another inch eventually, its just not high up on my list.

I am going to list cars that have been plasti dipped and I want you to try and envision my truck as each color with the black accents and tell me which you think would look sweet and different!!

Camo green

Gunmetal grey

KOI orange (closest to hugger orange)

Matte white

Matte black

matte blue

yellow

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

So you are saying all of those pictures are cars that have been sprayed with Pasti-dip, correct?

How long and well does it hold up for a vehicle parks outside all the time?

plasti dip wont last more then a few months if you actually drive the thing. Skip it and shoot with some real paint

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

Plasti dip is a rubberized paint that you can spray on anything and then if you do not like it, you can peel it off.

It will last for a long time, certain colors do have issues with getting clean if they get really dirty but most colors hold their color greatly.

I have had matte white plasti dip on my Harley vrod for well over a year and it looks as good as the day I first applied it.

Yes all of the above cars are plasti dipped, and they are examples of the colors I am interested in for my truck.

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about so please feel free to go troll elsewhere...

I have sprayed several cars, trucks of my friends who drive theirs daily and have not had any issues.

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

I've been considering plasti-dipping my 97. My original plan was to do a macco black, but I may do black with glossifier. However, I saw a couple of vehicles that were white and I thought they looked real nice.

A friend did his land rover in a plasti-dip, and that stuff is pretty tough. It was crazy how easily it peeled off, too.

I like the orange with the black wheels personally.

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

I don't think it has any problems with moisture, rain beads up on it nicely!

You spray it straight over the clear coat no prep work really, and if/when you remove it the clear coat looks like it did before you added it, its a lot like a wrap but in spray form.

Thanks for all the opinions!

It looks like the orange is leading with grey, and blue not too far behind.

What if there's no clear coat anymore? Just wondering because I've considered doing this same thing to my truck (old faded paint) & my Nova (really poor primer job).

Also, is Plasti Dip available in anything other than spray cans? You said you've sprayed other cars... Can't imagine how many cans it takes.

I believe if the clearcoat is flaking, it may present a problem. And I don't think primer will work real well, since its kind of porous. The plastic can get "sucked in" and won't peal off.

The top of my crew cab is in kind of bad shape. I was thinking I could sand it down a little to clean it up, hit it with some gloss rattle can, and then spray plasti-dip over it.

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

^^ Thanks for the link! Looks like the gallons start at $50. I figured as much about it not peeling off as well or at all. Oh well... Not worth clearing the car just to spray Plasti Dip

It WILL work with primer but yes it does get "sucked in" a little deeper so you need to spray it on a little thicker in those areas so you have more to pull on when removing it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vvkq-qyY9aY

I use the gallons and use a wagner spray gun (airless). works great.

Re: Cannot decide on a color... need opinions

I'm liken this idea! My paint is crap. I was considering just sanding it down to get the dull look, but like the idea I can change color.
How many gallons would it take to Plasti Dip a C10? And where do you buy yours?

not exactly sure, going by the sizing chart on their website Id say 5 for a SWB maybe 6 for a LWB. So about $250. Im going to get 5 for mine (pre-thinned(sprayable)) and depending on what color I go with I may get a gallon of white to do a base coat so the bright colors pop more than on a black base.
