Re: 51 chev build

I was there from about 8am to 11am then left to go to another show in Big Lake. I was parked by the BBQ trailer. I will be at the Elk River lions club show on the 28th. Maybe I'll catch you at a couple more.

Re: 51 chev build

Beautiful truck! And love the interior! Do you know the offset/backspacing on your wheels and how far in the fenders do they sit? Im going to make mine sit alot lower on the frame and hoping thd 4x4 frame clip will still allow the 4" back spacing wheels to clear/tuck fine.

Re: 51 chev build

The rims have a 4.5" backspacing with a 1/2 offset. They are 18x9 but with the size of the tires I wouldn't be able to set them into the fenders. The tires are 11 1/2" wide. I believe if you got tires that were narrower the would fit. The best way to check is to measure the width from the box to the inside of the fender for tire width.

thanks, yeah the wheels im running are only 8" wide and the tires alot smaller, so judging by your picture shouldnt have any problems tucking them in the fenders and still be able to turn with my truck sitting a good 10" lower then yours does.

Re: 51 chev build

Found a hood to replace the aftermarket hood that didn't fit. HMMM it actually lines up with the fenders.

Re: 51 chev build

Just installed the Altman easy latch kit on my 51. My doors no longer move up when I shut the doors. The kit was actually fairly easy. I was real nervous about cutting chunks of metal out of my doors but it went smooth.

Stock parts always fit better sorry you had to learn the hard way but you can always sell the other to someone who is going to channel a truck and needs one to cut up!

I too had trouble with hoods. I ordered a new hood paid big money for it and to ship it also. I spent countless hours trying to get it to fit correctly. In the end the hood was too long in the front where it meet the top of the grill. I called and complained to classic parts but they could do nothing about it. I did not paint it, but I did not get a refund.

Re: 51 chev build

Just thought I would give some more information on the Altman latch kit. I installed a power lock kit and alarm system which works nice. I'm glad I can finally lock the doors. The way the latch works with the locks will allow you to unlatch to the first position but will not allow the second stage to release. Just some information in case anyone else gets them and thinks something is wrong.

Re: 51 chev build

Look at the first page with the engine picture and you can see the 4 mounts I made. They are simple 1/4" plate bent to a 90 and then bolted to the frame. I still need to put in a connecting rod to stabilize them.

Liking your truck.what are the metric sizes for your tires. Imperial in tires means nothing to me. Also is itlifted at all, or just the taller tires. Cheers

Re: 51 chev build

I don't know the conversion for metric but they are 32 inch tall. The truck is not lifted just the tires.
