Rear Disk Brake conversion??

I machined down my axles to fit 76- I believe 80's Cadillac Seville Rotors. I'm wanting to know if the wheel need the register fit of the hub? My axle hub area appears to be swallowed up when I put the Cadillac Rotor on.

Thanks,

Kev..

Re: Rear Disk Brake conversion??

well, put it this way - chevs use hub centric wheels and fords don't - they are lug-centric. You CAN use ford wheels on chevs (I'm talking about 3/4 ton here, but as long as the bolt circle is correct, and yours are since you're using whatever wheels you were using before, the same logic applies).

So, as far as safety goes, I THINK it's ok. Several folks on here run lug-centric wheels from a ford on their chev hubs - so the hub isn't centering the wheel.

I'd get a few more opinions to get a warm fuzzy though.

Re: Rear Disk Brake conversion??

The studs are 1/2''-20 pressed into the Moser axles, I bought these to convert over from the 6 lug pattern on my 67. I had already done the front k-member using Mcgaughys dropped spindle kit which uses the 5 on 5 or 5X5 lug pattern. This is the axle swap reason for the rear of the truck...I bought the 99-2000 or so Astro Van awd rotors and Seville calipers and the Seville Calipers will not fit over the Astro Van Rotors as they are 1.290 thick, hence I returned them and bought the correct 76-80's model Cadillac Seville rotors which are about 1'' thick allowing the emergency brake calipers I had bought to fit without milling down the pads! Hence where I'm at now is thinking if I need to machine another piece so the wheels will have a register fit or not. I know the wheels have the 45 degree or whatever degree angle so the wheel lugs nuts will align it but concerned about it being weak...But then again do all after market wheel mfg's machine or stamp their hub area to fit the hub on the axle snug or not??? Thanks for all the help and God Bless....

Kev.....
