Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

The wheels are Boyd Coddington's Junkyard Dogs. 20"s in the rear and 18"s in the front. Paint quote was 13k. I found some other guys that do good work around here that are going to do it a lot cheaper than that. I am slapping it all together to take to them by Friday. I throw some pics up once it is put together. It will be a first.

Paint is not cheap if you want it done right. Mine is at the body shop now and it's going to be around 12 when all said and done. Any cheaper and it's a backyard spray with no guarantee out here.

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

I've seen some of these guy's work. Looks pretty good. I'm not looking for a show car. If it's too good, then I won't drive it anywhere. HAHAHAHAHA They are going to do it in stages and are close to the house. When they get the body work done and self etching primer on, I will pay them for that and take it back to the shop and build/install my raised bed. If I'm not satisfied, I will take it to someone else.

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

Probably around 4 weeks for body and first coat of primer. Then I pick it up and build the bed floor. After I take it back, it should be another 4 weeks. Haha, thanks blue57. I'm nervous enough leaving it somewhere other than my shop.

I am the same way. Just go check on it weekly that's what I have been doing.

Black looks good when the body work is done right but black as a color tends to hide some of the body lines and curves of a vehical.

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

Congrats.
I had a black truck years ago. Looked nice for about an hour after a wash.
For a driver I would go with something different but that's just me.

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

Week 3 at body shop. Finishing up the lines and have the shaved door popper kits on order. Doesn't look like much has been done but the doors needed work and I want straight lines. Back and Front glass came in finally. Waiting to see it thrown together.:cool

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

IMO, I don't think I will ever use black on a project for the reasons listed. It will get old quick.. But I'm not dogging you. If black is what you want, all to you. But most people who are asking for black end up being a lot happier with a black cherry or dark root beer. At least check out those colors in person, you will be surprised. Build looks so good! I'm doing similar build. I have the same drop spindles, Camaro clip, and ordered my rims look almost identical. Good work and keep it up! It's a good feeling sending it to body and paint.

Re: 1956 Chevy truck build

Well we are getting there slowly but surely. I want my truck back!!!!!!!! Dash is done and and both doors are wrapping up. Have to take a BIG STEP BACK. Just ordered the whole rear panel for the cab. The window seams to be beyond repair......Looks like I will have to wait on other parts for a bit.
