Just picked up a 79 SB, need help choosing lowering options.

First post, Just had this truck shipped from CA to Pa, it's a solid rust free shorty and the only thing I plan to do is door panels and put a 3-5 drop on it with 18" wheels.

I've done some research but and not clear about choosing drop spindles over shorter springs or using a rear axle flip compared to using a shackle kit. Let me know what and why you would recommend.

Thanks for the help!

3 in spindles and a specialty retail flip you might end up cutting a half coil off front springs to gain an additional 1 inch of drop

Nice looking truck Sidepiper, I like it, I like the white steel wheels and hub caps. Is that a factory two tone?

Very nice truck, theres an identical one same shape and patina here for sale in CA CL. Love that color combo and the original patina'd paint!

Western chassis 2.5 spindles and 2" coils (or cut your factory coils) up front, and a flip kit out back. With this combo, you can always go a little lower down the road if desired, with a shackle/hanger kit you really can't. Speaking from experience here.

Nice truck!

For a 3/5 drop with those stock steelie wheels I'd go straight to a 3 inch front spindle and a rear flip kit. Everything will clear fine with the spindle and those wheels.

My own stepside has 3 inch DJM spindles, one coil cut, and a flip in the back. I did the cut coil in the front in conjunction with the spindles because I don't like level trucks. I wanted mine to keep some rake to it.
