Good question. It is also the support for the gas tank braces and it lowers the box an inch or inch and a half.

Will you have to modify the step inside the cab or trim your cab corner with this kit? I only ask because I found some pictures of a build in Belgium that the step had to be narrowed and the cab corner needs to be trimmed

That's true. The kit contains the step plate.

Does your kit come with a cross member that goes in the center of the frame to make it more rigid? I hear the frames are pretty weak once the body comes off. A buddy of mine mounted his 59 Bel Air on a Caprice chassis and the frame twisted during transport with no body on it
