Order of operations? '67 K20 Engine, Trans, T-case

I think I misinterpreted "front clip" and just went for the front stuff you see in the pictures, this was probably more work and it is less exposed o-well. Still a lot of work to do, and the tcase may be the hardest part

Leaving the fenders on can expose them to damage, but caution and patience avoids that sort of thing. I'm assuming you've got a 'high hump' transmission cover, that should be tall enough, although the shifter port hole may be different for a 420 vs a 465 (never had to deal with a 420). no1udknow, I was referring to being able to take the whole assembled clip off at once- a daunting proposition. Bit by bit, it is no sweat. Now the fun part is when I would pull an engine by hoisting it up by chaining the engine, standing underneath and cutting the motor mounts, letting the hulk fall down around me, engine hanging overhead and me standing in the now empty engine compartment, grinning profusely. That really freaked out the customers watching their engine get pulled.

That's great you got it figured out! Next time remember, the order of operations is

Step 1: Grouping symbols (),[],{} ||
Step 2: Exponents ie: 2 to the 3rd power
Step 3: Multiplication or Division, which ever is first from left to right
Step 4: Addition or Subtraction, which ever is first from left to right

I haven't had much luck figuring out how this applies to working on vehicles, but my math professor swears it's the only way to get the answer correct.

If you don't battle the tcase crossmember when installing it back in the frame, your frame rails are bent and spread out. Yours sounds normal.

On the topic of order of operations, do you suggest getting the crossmember bolted in first then get the t-case up there?

Also, what makes getting the bolt holes to line up easier? Punch? Bottle jack against frame?

I've used one of those bird-head line-up tools to get things straight. Lashing the whole mess to a transmission jack can give you a degree of 'adjustability', but it's still an ungainly lump, and one of the 'not fun' parts of the operation. It's still easier than putting the transmission/transfer case assembly up to the bell house. That's an operation of nearly endless frustration. DAMHIK.
