Stock 350 cam reccomendation

72 c10, 2wd, stock 350 with rebuilt qjet and drilled idle tubes. 3.08 posi with 4 speed Saginaw. 2.25 dual with h pipe. Stock compression so about 8.5:1? Motor has under 100k without ever being opened.

It's my "hot rod" cruiser that I do daily. Need to regasket the oil pan, timing cover, and valve covers so figured I'd throw in a cam and set of lifters for under $200.

Looking for a definite lope at idle but nothing drag car. Want something to definitely come to life and put a smile on my face when it gets wound out but still drivable around town with decent low end grunt. She's old so I won't be going more than 5,000 rpm.
Was looking at L79 modern grinds, the smaller voodoo and comp extreme energy cams. my ideal cam I'm thinking is:

215ish intand 225ish exh dur. At .050.
110 LSA
.440-.450 lift

Can't seem to find an out of box cam close to this. I want to use stock valve springs so I'm limited to .450. The 60101 voodoo lift is a little high and I'd rather have a bit more duration. The cams under that , lift wise, are a little low. Also have been hearing too many comments on comps wear and tear on valve trains. Any suggestions? I see Iskys mega and super cams but their LSA is 108 which might kill some of my rev range.

I really like summits 1065 cam, but wish it had a little less intake duration. Anyone make anything close to that or have suggestions?

Please move this thread if it isn't the right section. Was looking for some real world experience from guys who drive c10s every day and what they like.

Re: Stock 350 cam reccomendation

Hi energy 262H or my favorite in the world for the small block street truck/car is a 268H Comp Cams Camshaft. Have used more than a handful of them and always been happy. It will give you more. More power, more torque, more vacuum, more miles per gallon [when you don't stomp it every chance you get]and more smiles per gallon as well. Good luck I know it is a very important decision one of the most important you can make in the truck[or at least the motor]. Jim

268H Comp Cams Camshaft
I agree.

The other cam I have used a few times is that grind everyone has .420/.443 lift 204/214 duration.
It won't give you a lopey idle, but works well with stock gears and stock convertor.

268H was my original first choice but with the higher lift around .460ish, will that be ok on stock valve springs? My concern is comps xtreme energy cams are already rough on valvetrains, and with this added lift im afraid ill be destroying my valvetrain. Also this cam has 112 LSA, some say the idle is "somewhat noticable" but i dont want to regret putting in too mild of a cam. Ill trade some low end torque for a nice idle and a bump in higher rpm. comp cams nostalgia+ line states its similarly designed to xtreme energy but not as rough on moving parts.

Looking at the 268h specs again i see exhaust lift is up at .480 which is way too much for stock valve springs unless im mistaken. Im limited to .450 lift which is all the heads can flow anyways.

Re: Stock 350 cam reccomendation

My uncles buddy threw in a new lunati voodoo 60100, used Edelbrock Performer intake which he got for $65 an a rebuilt Edelbrock 1406 carb an it made a nice difference in power an sound. It was in a 73 long bed with a bone stock 350 an dual exhaust. The Edelbrock performer intakes are everywhere used online for cheap an since your resealing everything.... Even if you step down to the Comp Cams 262h your lift is still gonna be a little high for stock heads. It'll probably work but rough on the valve train. Just my opinion

Re: Stock 350 cam reccomendation

I have run that 268H on stock springs a bunch of times. I've used the dual energy cam and the extreme energy cam as well I did like the dual energy caused it helped on the exhaust. The extreme energy was close to a little big for what it was in but I always can depend on the 268H. It will provide a good lope. The dual energy will sound a bit different cause of the exhaust being split that does help down low. I thought the lift was like 454 on the hi energy 268H.

Re: Stock 350 cam reccomendation

Alright these are all good suggestions and in the right direction, just need to iron out more specifics to find a good match.

So I need a split pattern cam, more duration on the exhaust maxing at 225ish at .050 lift, 110 LSA, .455 max lift .

Anyone have a match I'm not seeing?

Re: Stock 350 cam reccomendation

Can anybody tell me why I shouldn't run this cam?

SUM-1065
Adv. dur. 280/280
218/218 dur. At .050
.458/.458
110 LSA

Seriously, I want to know the disadvantage to this cam, besides the obvious lack of split pattern.
