I didn't see an answer to your seam sealer question for the drip rails. It doesn't need to be filled up to the top of the drip rail. It's actually not supposed to be filled, but just cover the seams to prevent moisture from getting between the layers. You'd paint it just like the roof so the sealer is covered.
I like the wood too.
