1969 chevy cst big block
Can anyone tell me if the 1969 Chevrolet CST big block trucks were labeled with the 400 badges? I read that the later models were labeled with the 400 badges and wanted to know if this is the case. Any insight would be greatly appreciated...

Re: 1969 chevy cst big block
Thanks for the reply... I will keep researching. I heard that the some of the later models in 1969 could of been labeled with 400 fender badges.

Re: 1969 chevy cst big block
The 402 was introduced in 1970.
GM was developing the SBC 400, but didn't want a SBC with a larger CU, so they punched out the 396 to 402, and slapped on a 400 emblem to test our limits. Course that wasn't enough, so on some they slapped on the 400 emblem, SPID read 396, and featured a 402 under the hood, and/or any variation of the three. Make sense?

Re: 1969 chevy cst big block
Yes it does.. I am buying this truck and am in the process of verifying it has the number matching motor. I have not seen to many at all with the 400 badge but did read on line that they did label some of the later 69 models with the 400 badge. Can't wait to get it bought

Once upon a time, I thought I heard the 396 heads had larger ports and therefore more compression. If I recall, it was 10:1 Vs 8.5/1. The heads on my rebuild came off a 396. Note: I don't know a lot about engines. I just did the R and R, with my buddy who led.

Re: 1969 chevy cst big block
Thanks for all the input. Im excited to get the truck and appreciate your help in verifying it's correct. This truck is pretty cool. Does anyone know the correct engine code for a 1969 400 block and where on the engine I would find the code?
