Dana44 front drum

last night my drum on my '68 6lug closed knuckle 44 EXPLODED when I slammed on the brakes to avoid a wreck. I was wonderin if a drum from an open knuckle or just a 2 wheel drive would work? when i say explode, the face of drum broke off clean and where the shoes hit it broke in 2.

Re: Dana44 front drum

looks like any 11"x2" 6 lug truck drum should work unless you have a heavy duty option? don't know if that was avl.

Re: Dana44 front drum

I can't answer what else will fit, but I had the same happen on the front of my 2wd '61 Suburban one day.

Re: Dana44 front drum

I remember having a hard time finding front drums for a 69 GMC I had. I was able to get a pair in a junkyard. That was in the mid 90's though.

Re: Dana44 front drum

I had the same thing happen to me a few yrs ago on my 70 Burb 4x4 got on the brakes real hard and BAM it cracked it and messed up the shoe too.. I think I found one at Orielly's...That's the only time I ever had any trouble out of that closed knuckle..
