02 silverado,heater motor/relay

I have been seeing the fan speed does not work in the lower ranges, & figured that the relay was going.....well, she quit,(no fan @ any speed) with cloud of smoke under the dash & out the vents! The question that I need to ask, is did I smoke some wiring also? Electrical, is not my best subject....any help, would be very helpful. Longhorn

more than likely the resistor burnt up. that is a own problem with those. the harness probably is burnt as well. you can get the new resistor and plug from your local dealer. the plug is a pigtail with about 12 inches of wire to get rid of the burnt part. the fuse might have blown as well.

I wouldn't trust the plug. just change it and be done with it.

Re: 02 silverado,heater motor/relay

Thanks again I thought I had the resistor, from a parts truck....got the blower motor, & the end of the harness. yes , a couple wires close to the plug have been heated! Orilleys offers a Dorman resistor & plug pigtail for about 42 bones.....good deal, or would you go AC delco? longhorn

F*** Dorman!!! If it's metal, rubber or plastic it is junk.

I find the blower starts drawing high current loads (not high enough to blow fuse) and takes out resistors and pigtails.

Re: 02 silverado,heater motor/relay

Dorman resistor and pigtail will work, IF you get the right one. There are several different configurations.
G.M. put the resistors in the case so airflow will cool them, but they are at the low spot in the blower case. Water build-up in the case will destroy the resistor. Also, the plug is where everyone on the passenger side can kick it...
Makes me wonder of they were hiring cast-off Ford engineers...

There are different applications depending on wether it's got climate control, Manual control, and stuff like that. If you go to autozone's website, you should be able to get the right part#. (then buy it on amazon for 1/3 the cost!)
