My 74 big block gmc
I picked this truck up from my dad last summer. He bought it for a cheap truck but he couldn't get it to run right. I had bigger ideas for it.
Here it is as I got it. |

Re: My 74 big block gmc
I have a buddy who builds and drives race cars and he talked me into a full engine tear down. I bought a new scat stroker rotating assembly, lunatic hydraulic roller cam, bigger valves on my 781 heads. Also put in a serpentine kit, aluminum radiator and wind star fans. Then I decided to put in a 4 L80e with the pcs simple shift, and Dakota digital gauges.

Re: My 74 big block gmc
I first went with a knockoff serpentine kit, and it was awful. Ended up going with billet specialties. Then I changed out the rear end to a 3.73 posi. Went to drive it home and my new oil pan was leaking at the weld.
Haven't had time to change it out yet, and decided to ditch the carb and go efi. Once I get her home, getting vintage air. |

Looking good! Must have some good torque.

Re: My 74 big block gmc
So the lifters that lunati recommended for my cam are way too loud. They drove me nuts and because of the oil leak the motor is getting pulled back out. Figured I'd change out the lifters for something that isn't noisy. My cam also puts out too much torque at the low end so decided to dial it up a notch on the cam. New cam and lifters came in yesterday.
Hoping to get this old girl into paint in a couple weeks. |

Re: My 74 big block gmc
Too much torque! Haha what's that? Cool truck. Looks like fun. The vintage air stuff kicks butt. Just a heads up but if you get the custom hose kit, ask them to loan you a crimping tool set and they will throw one in.
Good luck with your build.

Re: My 74 big block gmc
Here are the lifters I got from isky. Almost a grand, solid bushing hydraulic roller, but Ron guarantees no ticking!

I've cleaned it up some but going to go at it more once it's painted.

Re: My 74 big block gmc
I saw bits and pieces, got caught up in other things. I still don't like this fuel command center at all.

I'm thinking of going with this color. It's called Blackberry Pearl.

Re: My 74 big block gmc
I did score a very nice replacement dash bezel for $150 a few months back. If anyone knows these 73-74 trucks, some of the parts are only for those years and hard to find.
Going to get my dash pad recovered after paint. Not sure if I want to stick with the bench seat, or go with some newer seats. |

Gonna have them dyed black though. The bottom comes off to act as a cooler too!
