Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Do you live in a town that decorates for Christmas? My town has a mostly residential main st that travels down a long hill to downtown at the bottom, about a block, and up another long hill out. I think there about 12 pole decorations along the downtown stretch with garland roped along hand rails. Then there are all the residents who light up and decorate their turn of the century houses. I'd like to take a video going down Main St. Not sure how to show one here that doesn't (didn't) come from Photobucket.
Anyway, anyone have pictures to share? We also have a town Christmas tree they just lit up last weekend with a ceremony/music/etc. At the VFD they set up a train garden every years, too. I'm out of town about 6 miles, yet I get to have Santa come rolling by on the back of a fire engine. He's all lighted up and waving. I've always appreciated that. I don'y know how far out of town they start, but he is basically waving to no one out here. I can always tell he's coming. I think they start just around the bend with a blast of the siren, which is different since that would be a neighboring department coming that way and I would have heard the siren from way up the valley. There's always just enough time to get to a window and I flash the front porch lights to let him know we see. I'll try to get some pictures. Anyone else? What does your town do for Christmas? https://static.wixstatic.com/media/d...8a8f6b~mv2.jpg

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Interesting that you brought this up.
I pass through the town square on the way home everyday, and I was thinking last night I need to get pictures and was planning to go down tonight and do just that. That's where all the drug stores were when I was a kid and now there is only one.

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Our town has changed but much of the old small town feel at least remains. Our fire house was right in town, resident trooper's office, a hardware store, lumber yard, and banks have all moved out of downtown. Other businesses have had starts and stops with things pretty well occupied with businesses that are working. Still have Olde Town Grille and the pharmacy is still in the old B&O RR freight depot

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Our railroad went bankrupt and they took up the tracks in the early fifties.
Now the FedEx Freight headquarters is here.

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Bigfork looks magical. I know there are towns that do it up, are known for it. Down in Baltimore is a block on a street that is known for going all out. I love it when everyone participates. It doesn't have to be ll that much.
34th St in Hampden, a neighborhood of Baltimore

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
There was a hunting "incident" in my town awhile back. Now my town doesn't get Christmas anymore, we are on the naughty list.

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Well, Santa just came by the house on a fire engine at 8:00 sharp. Now I'm sure, the siren goes on just around the bend in the away from town direction. Our stretch of road is where it begins. So I know immediately what's happening. I was at the front porch light switch (wall lights) by the door waiting to flash them. I feel special like a kid. They blast the air horn when they see the lights flashing.
Coming through town on my way home tonight I realized it's the residents of Main St who make it so nice. It seems to be getting better every year. It would be best to walk for best pictures. Just doesn't work well while driving

Re: Main St/Downtown at Christmas
Yeah, first it was for my kids. I'd hurry them all over to the windows. Now it's for me! It makes me feel a part of the town out here. There is only one pizza delivery that will come this far. We actually get asked for (and give) contributions from another VFD out the other direction, as well. That's how in between we are
