Paint Jail

Well, it's a term I read on this forum from somebody and it sure applies. It's been so cold here in Tennessee that we couldn't paint. Finally got a break in the weather. Have been waiting forever (so it seems).

Am trying to post pictures. Previously, it would not let me. I'll try a couple separately, maybe the files are too big?

Enjoy the pictures!

Thanks for the nice comments. Well, actually, it's not a 50th although it's supposed to look like one. Truck isn't a '68 although that's my favorite front end; and I do like the color combination of the 50th models.

I guess you would call it a mongrel. Things I like from a lot of different models. I like it anyway.

Gave my son my previous C10 when he got into Medical School thinking it would sit in my garage for a few years and then he would restore it again with his son. Didn't work out. Broke my heart, he sold it two (2) days after I gave it to him. Guess this one is revenge. I've put my heart and soul (plus nearly 2 years) into it. All so that when he asks to drive it someday I can (and will) say "NO".

Am going to keep it until I die. Interestingly, if you've read this far, there are less than 30 original pieces of metal on this truck including bolts. I really have "built" it...

Re: Paint Jail

Looks good. Can't wait to see more pictures of when you put it back together.

I am still in shock on how your son can just up and sell the truck you gave him two days later. I would have kicked my sons a**! I am glad this time you know to tell him no. Also when the day comes when you meet our creator please make sure you give the truck to someone other than your son.

Sorry if I sound mean. I just really felt bad for you when I read what your son did to you.

Mike

Thanks Mike. Yeah, it broke my heart. He's a good kid though. And I sort-of understand. The deal was, get into medical school and I'll give you the truck. Sort of incentive. So, it was his to sell. And, I made sure he got plenty of money for it, he didn't give it away. But it did break my heart.

I've got another boy. He'll get this one... Only after I'm gone.

I do appreciate your kind words. I think only those who love these trucks like I do understand. It did break my heart, but I'll build another truck.. A better truck.

Thanks again!!

It's actually a one year only color for 1970 Camaro. GM Code 53. Haven't seen this on a new Camaro, although it could be.

I think it was also used on some other GM vehicles, although I just picked it from a picture of a 1970 Camaro.

I "see". Well, I'm colored blind if it helps I recall that color on the 70.

The new Camaro has something similar, per my eyes. Best looking color on a new Camaro. For all I know it wasn't a stock color.......

That's interesting. 1970 must have been the year GM was trying a lot of "one year" colors. My truck is a somewhat odd, but rare one year color called "dark gold".

Either way, great color and nice how it blends with the white to make a killer two-tone!

saxart: Upon doing a little more research, GM used the "53" code gold on a lot of vehicles under different color descriptions. It's "Camaro Gold" for 1970 Camaro's.. Also called "Nugget Gold" and "Coronado Gold Poly"... All on different models and years. They even put it on GMC Trucks, '71 and '72 I think. Not sure of the name. So, it's a more common color than I thought, just not for a Camaro.

Glad all you guys like the color. Got the bed painted today, ran out of color. Back to Dupont in the morning. All that's left to paint is the tailgate and the white on the lower part of the bed.

Thanks again Guys!

I thought it was made for doors? My buddy Chris borrowed it from a guy who builds hot rods. It's got arms and I thought it was made for doors. Chris likes to spray things all in uniform direction, he's got a method to putting on pigment and it works like a charm. I'll look for a manufacturer tomorrow when I take the pigment by, I think I can get a picture for you. It's pretty old, may be obsolete?

Sorry, Chris is the expert. Anybody close to Nashville who needs a really, really good body guy (you should see the gaps and lines on this thing) PM me and I'll give you Chris' number. He does excellent work and is fair. He has great credentials as well.
