The box is engineered to the "T" to get the best out of it. Off the top of my head, I don't have the dimensions. But, if you give me the model # of your 12", I can help you out in designing a box specifically for that speaker. Once upon a time, I squeezed two 12s behind the seat of a Mazda pickup, so I know it will fit fine in our squares.

Meanwhile, I got Gerald running again yesterday. Wifey was running errands in my daily truck, and I needed lumber. So, I tore down the carb again, adjusted the float, and couldn't find any explanation why it was leaking. After a test run, I took it to HomeyD. Got some lumber, and did some cruising with no leaks!
Funny you mention the Mazdas... I LOVE B2200s... I have had 4-5 of them and all were BUILT - this was before I got into muscle cars then I merged my slammed trucks with muscle cars into my past 2x C10s (the 67 and now my 85).... that was my progression. LOL I had 2 12s in my single cab b22 also but the seat was way up to make it fit. I used the back wall as the back of the box and sealed the rest to it.

As for the front speakers in the c10, the 4" are a lil too big. I had JBL 3.5"s in there and they fit perfect. The pass side 4 fits fine with some trimming but the driver's side is too shallow. I dont have it in right now till I can devise a workaround. The center 3x9 is the beez kneez tho!!! it just dropped right in. I just happened to have a set of the 3x9s and tried it and it was like Christopher Columbus discovering America!

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

BIG, I like the "upgrade everything" builds as much as anybody, but to be honest, chill builds like this are my favorite. Good work on carb rebuild #2 -- I hope it holds up for you. Hopefully the truck can earn its keep and you can enjoy doing little things, here and there.

I don't know if you have an auto paint store that can do this, but where I live, WESCO will scan your existing paint and mix that formula into various size touch-up vials or a spray can. You could dial in your "off-color" fender and such if you wanted.

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

Frank, my first truck was an 84 b2000. I got too busy the last few days to measure my box. But, the seat is all the way back, and If I recall, the bottom was 7.5" and 4.5" at the top.

LT7A, thanks for the comments. I have thought about doing a paint match on the fender, but haven't got around to it. I bought this truck from a professional painter, and he threw in enough blue metallic base to get this truck done. I just don't have time in the next 2-3 years to get to this one. I have two other project cars ahead of this one to finish, plus helping my dad with his build.

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

BIG, totally get it. High quality "problem" to have. Especially cool that you're working on one with your dad. I'm learning how to talk myself out of thinking that my projects need to be straight with good paint. So I've been looking into ways to getting them all one color, more or less, and thought I'd check in on that with ya. Cool that you have spare paint when and if you want it.

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

Ya know, I would rather have patina and not care that much about the paint. My 67 was crappy looking and that is what gave it character... my 85 has a decent 10ft paint job on it and I sweat it all the time. Its a daily driver so it gets washed weekly and I am careful where I park... all I think about is repainting it... I hate it... I want to not care.

Leave Gerald as is and enjoy her!

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

I just realized that I didn't post any winter pics here.

Going back through this thread reminds me why I like this truck.... It's always for sale, but a part of me hopes nobody buys it...

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

Hello, Matt. I keep my eyes open for your truck. Though I have seen a longbed truck similar to yours, same color with canyon county plates...

Re: "Gerald" the 81 GMC.

These 81s Don't come up for sale often and that 1 Headlight grille is even rare Although Aftermarket is made nothing comes even close to Genuine!!!
You have a very unique truck here I wouldn't sell it It sure is an eye-catcher especially having that Ole Six Cylinder that is so neat. Doesn't hurt to be different.
