Yes they do connect and yes there is an opening between them. The advantage of the "X" pipe over the "H" pipe it's the ability to scavenge is better. The "H" pipe tends to creat turbulance at higher RPM due to the fact it causes the gasses between the two sides to flow perpendicular to the natural flow of the exhaust. The "X" pipe however keeps everything flowing in the same direction, increasing it's abillity to scavenge. Especially at higher RPMs. WES

Fast71 - Thanks a lot for the pics, I was really hoping some would pop up. I was considering your set up, but wondering if you could see the pipes through the wheelwells when looking at the side of the truck. I like the short turn down out the side. Its clean looking.

Racedvl - You got me thinking too I really like your set up also. I am going to have to take a look at the truck and see if I could do that without my gas tank and hidden hitch getting in the way. Again, I like turn down look.

Let me know if you need any other pictures. I got super lucky and brought my own collectors, and mufflers, and one of my customers bent and hung it for $100!

Also, I had him bend it in the back to go around the outside of the frame rails, so if I ever find the the time and $$$ I will install a Blazer gas tank.

ok guys some time ago someone had a pic of his exhaust and he had but holes in his cross member where the carrier bearing is to keep his exhaust up higher. Who was this and is there any pics? and how did it turn out? i need to keep mine as high as possible since after i lowered mine my exhaust hit the alignment rack and busted my ram horn! don't mean to pirate your thread, hoping to add too it!

This is the system I have made up for our trucks. Notice the mandle bends on the pipes...no flattening/kinking like those bent on muffler shop machines.
They are 2-1/4" but flow like a 2-1/2" muffler shop system.
Notice they are built to clear a rear tank, like Blazer/Suburban or truck with tank mounted in the rear.
